Using a teapot seems like so much unnecessary work... I just pour the water into the cup, do the whatsit with the teabag and then add milk and sugar...

Exactly. They're heavy and it's hard to clean them too (since you shouldn't use soap on them, less you ruin the flavour of the tea) so I just don't bother.
