I believe Alaska was fairly well defended during the Cold War though that probably went lax during the non-Cold War years I'd assume America would have beefed up his military there again given how close it is to Russia (not see Russia from your window close but still close) but it's incredibly far from any sort of backup (unless Canada had his own forces standing ready near his border just in case) so getting backup support there would probably prove difficult in any sort of timely fashion.
Population is very tiny (the largest city only has like 100,000 people) so taking it down wouldn't take much once they got past the initial defences.
