This one took a while, but yeah, more imperial goodness with India, this time featuring Portugal! Cande I wonder if you're beginning to realise how often you inspire me to do things like this?

And naturally, more stuff I doodled in RS class. They're kind of crappy, yeah, I had to keep covering my notes.

And your obligitory history lesson:
In 70AD, the Romans, tired of Israel's constant uprisings, destroyed the land of Israel and deported a large amount of the Jews to be slaves in the Empire. Naturally, the Empire collapsed, and the Jews spread, seperating into two groups; some going to Iberia and North Africa, and others going to Germany and Eastern Europe.

Because they were so far apart (and these were the days before most people, especially former-slaves, could afford letters) they began to develop different cultures. The Sephardi Jews, the ones that went to live in Iberia, were much more chill with the food laws, such as keeping milk and meat in one fridge. The Ashkenazi, however, were much stricter. This is because in Germany and Easter Europe at the time, Christianity was blossoming quite nicely, and while the Jews weren't openly loathed (until later) they were shunned and gathered together in ghettos. Iberia, at that same time, was controlled by the Muslims, who were pretty chill with the Jews, since the Qur'an says to respect the "people of the book" i.e. the people that were monotheistic (believed in the one God).

There are like WAAAAAAAAAAY more Ashkenazi jews in the world. If you live in America and know a few Jewish people, chances are they're Ashkenazi. I'm not even kidding, 80% of the Jewish population are Ashkanazi. Before the Holocaust, it was 92%.

And then there's loads of subdivisions and it's almost as bad as all the Protestant Christianity subdivisions only not because there are 50 of those and only 6 different Jewish divisions but that's an essay for another time and I need to go to bed so GOOD NIGHT <3

India. is. pretty.

The good thing about Hetalia is that I learn more about World History.
The bad thing is that I still have no knowledge about my own country's History and Hetalia doesn't help me.

Hey!

A history lesson I already knew! I demand a refund. >:( (Say nothing about this being free, please.)

Interestingly we studied this in one of my Spanish classes because we read this book that was this long convoluted novel that... well, here let me summarize.

Part 1:
Catholic church prosecutes small protestant group during the Spanish inquisition. They all die. Priest feels extreme guilt, especially since his step-mother and half-sister are two of the protestants killed. Writes a memoir.

Part 2:
Evul nahzee man finds memoir and completely misconstrues it because he has some sort of obsession with his bloodline and he now owns the mountain on which the believers had been killed. It's... complicated. TL;DR: Man is crazy. He also abuses his son.
He hires a history professor to analyze the memoir and translate and he jumps on the opportunity because it's this 400 year old book and who wouldn't jump on that? Except it's the prelude to WWII and he lives in Paris. And his wife is Jewish. And in her infinite wisdom she stormed off to Germany because her relatives suddenly stopped responding to her. She's never heard of again. Meanwhile, he sends his 14-year-old son off alone to a Jewish group in Palestine to protect him... shit happens. It's not pretty. Eternal guilt haunts professor for the rest of his life.

And crazy man raises a crazy son.

OH! And there's this priest who starts tutoring under the professor and meets said crazy people with him. He's the one sane person in the entire novel, I swear.

Part 3:
Crazy son of crazy man gets involved in terrorism. People seeking revenge take the outlet. People get blown up. And that sane priest from Part II is still alive and kicking and putting an end to all this bullshit by using the memoir written and misconstrued by that priest in the Spanish Inquisition.

... Actually was pretty good. And this is an entirely random rant, isn't it? I don't know if the book's been translated into English, however. I read it in Spanish. All 800+ pages.

OH HEY. India totally didn't appreciate being the new addition to Portugal's and England's love affair. But it had its benefits. Really good sex.

I know right? She's so flowy and pretty and everyone wants her.

That is a sad thing.

I know nothing of Mexican history either.

This should be fixed.

TO WIKIPEDIA!!

Wow, that is indeed pretty long and convoluted. What's the title of the book? Holy shit reading all of it in Spanish YOU'RE MAD. Or insanely good with Spanish. *barely scraped a C in her GCSEs*

I'm sure she came round to the idea eventually. I wish I could write smut because that would be so HOT. Seriously it's on my wishlist of smexy pairings that need to happen.

Yes, it would be hot. Especially because now I am thinking "ENGLAND SANDWICH, Y/Y?!"

Yeah, read it in Spanish. Uh... oddly enough, I can't FORM Spanish words or speak it or write it or... anything? But when it comes to reading it, it just clicks. I think I had to look up three vocabulary words in the entire thing even though our professor gave us this huge vocab list for each chapter. I'd just look at it and go "... no thanks." It's easier to infer the meaning of a word through its context than looking it up beforehand.

La Sangre de los Inocentes (The Blood of the Innocents) by Julia Navarro.

Here's an Amazon link for the Spanish edition.

There doesn't appear to be an English edition. Therefor, work on your Spanish.

That's because Mexican history is a little boring.
I remember the basics, but I get the Revolution and the Independence wars mixed half of the time.. :/

I ♥ Wikipedia is like a History God or Goddess and pretty much the best thing for researching in the net. Sorry Google but keep leading us to Wikipedia anyway.

*gives you big shiney puppy dog eyes* I'd love you forever?

Waahhh, why can I not do that with reading languages. Speaking and listening, sure, whatever, but writing... booooo. Do you know another Romance Language? That might be why it clicks.

Nooo I gave up on Spanish 2 years ago and all the vocab is buried under Japanese.

Uh. Uhhhhhm. I have two papers due next week and I'm moving? But uh... if it's set in your universe I'd be more than happy to edit in the sexy stuff if you want to attempt the plot... *snerks*

Well, I studied French for three years in high school too, but I can no longer even attempt to read it. :/ Spanish and English share almost the same pronunciation, though, so it's easier to hear it in my head as I read? Idk. I CAN NOT LISTEN TO SOMEONE SPEAK SPANISH AND UNDERSTAND. I am jealous.

Practice??

You should try to write smut so you can write proper smut.. later. I'm sure once you manage to write smut it would be epic.

I feel like I'm inspiring you a LOT more than I actually realize lololol I'm so flattered thank you XD

sldkfjl;k omg India. She's so pretty aaaaaah. And yes Portugal hnnngh, him and England together going after India together...now that's just BAMF. Though I'm not sure how India felt about Port giving England a part of her as a "present" orz.

Hell yeah Sephardi Jews. Oh you Iberian bros. You always have to be different. I love you guys. XD I think I like them better for being so chill hahaha. No doubt they adapted to Port and Spain's passionate ways of life haha. Of course they later kicked them all out for collaborating with the Moors but ... /fail Diaspora is so cute though omg. I want to hug her.

You just say things and my brain is like "dude, that's hot/funny/wonderfully angsty, let's draw/write it". Don't stop.

She's so pretty no wonder the two of them are after her. India's probably frustrated and inwardly raging at the whole thing, but she can't exactly verbalise it. England meanwhile is flattered by the present. <3

They always have to make things DIFFERENT damnit. Though I'm sure Sarah didn't mind; going to their house to stay must have been a breath of fresh air from staying at Russia's or Poland's houses (pogroms aren't fun). Diaspora needs more hugs damnit.
