5: Exactly. See, the use of "thou" to refer to someone you were on bad terms with or were unfamiliar with was as bad as an insult. "Ye" or "you" was a much more neutral and distant pronoun. England is basically lowering Scotland's status and not adressing him as an equal or even as an adversary here by using "thou". It crops up a lot in Shakespear's plays, which is how I know this.
