Well the red hair thing has always been a problem in England. Since we never got along with the Irish or the Scots, and red hair's related to them more than the Saxon-ish English people, there's a stigma attached. Plus I was growing up in the 90s, when the IRA were bombing England, so add that in to the equation.
I've always wondered about that, since I want to teach English in Japan. It must be really confusing for British English to be insisting the back of a car is a "boot" but American English calling it a "trunk".
