hellzabeth: (Vocaloid: Gumi 1)

Ahhh finally I found a Vocaloid with my voice range...

Though it seems that since she's new she doesn't have very many quality songs. Not sure I like the ones like 16 Bit Warz, but her cover of Romeo and Cinderella made me squee a little. The programmer got it spot on, perfect pitch.

But it seems like she's hard to handle; it's pretty hit or miss. Very. Very. Miss.

She seems to do a lot of duets with Gakupo. I have to admit his voice does work nicely with hers. orz but their signature colours clash horribly... orange and green with purple and black... Plus the Luka/Gakupo shippers hate them together... guys, they're computer programs, seriously. =___=;;; They don't even technically have personalities.

And as usual her version of "The Disappearence of... [Vocaloid name here]" did not fail to make me tear up a little. Noooo don't delete herrrrr ;A;

And even though it was Miku's involvement that got it noticed, no Gumi related post is complete without the glorious, the wonderful, the utterly mad Matryoshka.

Okay, coming clean; this post is basically me bookmarking GUMI songs (and of course advertising her pretty voice haha she doesn't get enough love). I have some sort of thing against cluttering up my bar with loads of bookmarks, because it means the ones I use regularly get pushed off screen or buried and I am just that level of lazy in that I can't be bothered to find them.

... sometimes I wish I wasn't so shy about entering new fandoms. I mean, I lurked Hetalia for 2 years before writing fic or even commenting. I want to find more people who I can spaz about pretty songs with...

... /sigh

I guess in the end my social anxiety issues are always going to get in the way, even on the internet.

Uh so... I've been confused for awhile now, and Wikipedia's not that helpful.

Would you like to explain to this loser what Vocaloid is?

Prepare for incoming 2am rambling...

Lol, it's no problem.

Vocaloid is a program, if we get to the basics of it. It generates voices, singing voices to be precise. Each voice has it's own name, character design, and (by this point) established fanon-character. I've never seen a fandom run on so much fanon.

People download and use the program, choosing the character/singer they want. Each character has a distinct voice. You can go from low singers like Gakupo to intensely high falsettos like the twins, Len and Rin or Miku. There's a whole lot in between, such as Luka, who has a mid-range/deep but still girly voice, or Kaito, who has a higher voice but still sounds like a dude.

Funny thing about Vocaloid: there's no anime, no manga, no book or story what so ever. The whole thing is based around the users of the program. It's not really something you can wrap your head around properly until you get into it. The fandom makes up everything.

It's more like each song is it's own enclosed little story, with the Vocaloids playing the parts. Each artist (as in, the person using the program) can change the Vocaloid's personalities to fit the song (which is why I was saying it was silly to ship them earlier for anything beyond how good they sound together; they have no set personalities). For example, we've seen Luka go from crazy stalker psycho to the embodiment of innocence and light. All between two songs.

But yeah. The fandom is more like following a band or a style of music than it is being interested in a story.

That's... interesting.

Hmm.

So, wait. Do the people using the program make the songs or just listen to them and interpret?

People using the program make the songs, and then upload them to Nico Nico or Youtube or whatever, and other people listen to them.

Oh I get it now.

Haha, so if the fandom gets too large there's gonna be so much to keep up with XD

I have to admit Vocaloid always confused me as well, which is why I never got into it orz. Though I've browsed the pretty pictures on pixiv, and then proceeded to get even more confused because idek, that's what I get for reading Wiki first I think. XD

Don't be shy bb! Throw yourself in there. \o/ I'm sure there's a Vocaloid friending-meme or something. This is LJ after all.

I want to find a Professor Layton I nearly wrote "Kirkland" fml friending meme or something myself~ XD

It's better not to think too hard on it. XD It's a confusing, contradicting fandom. I'm just in it for the pretty songs and PVs.

I-I don't even know where to start. I'm part of the Vocaloid comm but they never really post anything but icons and the chart list of the week. orz;;; I could make a friending meme myself but I'M STILL TOO SHY.

Try looking up the LJ comm? If there is one, idk, I haven't looked.

It boggles the mind. I think I'll continue looking on in complete 8D-faced confusion no matter what happens, even if I already recognize half the characters lmao.

If you type in "Vocaloid friending meme" in the LJ search bar, there was one about 3 weeks ago apparently. You should check it out, the LJ search bar has everything. XD

There is actually: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] /o/ Pretty epic.

Gumi is kind of cute, although I'm not much in to the new Vocaloids. The vocaloid Fandom is pretty.. random.

And I feel your pain. New fandoms intimidate me a little so I just watch from afar orz.

I'm often quite tentative when trying new Vocaloids, but Gumi seems quite good, I think.

We can lurk together! In the shadows~

Yeeeeeessssss

Luka's my second favourite, after Gumi. I love all the songs she gets to sing, Double Lariat got stuck in my head all of yesterday and there was an entire week where Just Be Friends went round and round my brain...
