LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE

IN THE GOOD WAY

OXFORD BROOKES CONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE ONCE AGAIN, BITCHES

BOO YAH!

I'll know the conditions once they send the letter through, but here's hoping! FINGERS CROSSED, EVERYONE. >o<;;

On the other hand, with the vote for student fees to rise going ahead... orz;;; this is going to be costly, but IT'S WORTH IT!!

Well done!XD When will you know for sure if you have it? Also, what do you want to study there?:D

Damn straight it's worth it! University is awesome!:D Also, the longer you stay in education the higher the chance that the recession will be over by the time you graduate. :P

I'm gonna be studying Japanese~! It's going to be so cool!

Are you at uni at the moment? Lololol yes the recession... and even if it's not, if I go to Japan the conversion rate is pretty good.

Nice!:D

Yeah, I'm in Second Year atm...studying French, German and Japanese, I'm not very good at it though.:( Uni's fantastic, I made more friends that I actually had shit in common with there than I ever did in secondary school XD.

And yes, Japan's always an option :D. From what I hear they're always looking for English teachers.

Holy shit, three languages at once, I couldn't handle that. /in awe

It sounds like a load of fun, meeting a lot of people on the same course as you in your class, as well as the people in Halls and the like... I can't wait! Though I'm not much of a party girl.

It's such a popular language over there! Though I'm probably going to confuse them with using English spellings rather than American.

I can barely handle it either OTL. My course avoids the stigma of basically being an Arts course by being an absolute fuckload of work T_T

There's always a few people who don't like partying, you won't be on your own.:D Also, I don't know what Oxford is like, but I made most of my friends in my Japanese class...idk, people who study Japanese tend to be more fun.:D Clubs/societies are good for friend-making as well.

Yeah, I think there's some rule that they all have to study English from middle school onwards. Meh, I don't think the spellings will make much of a difference...I think?O.o I have to do a TEFL course before I go to Japan, I'll let you know what they say about it then.:P

S-sob. Japanese is a linguistics course, I thought your course would be too, wouldn't it? Or am I being a n00b?

I'm sure there'll be a manga society somewhere, what with part of the Japanese course being about modern Japanese media (ie manga and anime hehe). I'm not the type to get drunk or anything, so maybe if I can just hang out with people.

If not the spellings, then the terminology... "pants" vs "trousers". Though the latter would be easier for a Japanese person to say, considering パンツ vs トラーウザース... Oh yeah, TEFL, I'm planning to do that! Wouldn't it be weird if we ended up in Japan at the same time?

I meant that it was a BA. My course is called Applied Languages, it does have some linguistics in it but it's mostly focused on...hardcore language learning, I guess?O.o totally calling it that from now on XD

There probably is one somewhere in your college.:D If there is one definitely join it, the people there are usually really nice and there's often a good few that don't drink, so it's less pressure :D. I mean, I wasn't into anime at all until I joined the one in my uni WHAT HAS IT DONE TO MEEE OTL

Well learning different terminology will probably be good for them.:D Plus it would help them to hear English-speaking accents that weren't American, apparently they find some non-American accents hard to understand...

Apparently TEFL is compulsory in my uni if you're going on a teaching placement abroad, so I'm doing it in December.:D Do you go to Japan as part of your course?O.o

Ohhh! There are BA people at my old collage. Linguistics sounds so much classier. You can be all "oh yes, I'm a linguist" and people are all "wooooah".

Well, we did set one up at college before, but it dissolved not long before exams, what with nobody being able to attend. Too busy... JOIN THE DARK SIDE, WE HAVE YAOI

Well if one presented a Japanese person with a Scottish person, I can see how it would be hard to understand them XDDDD Oh god that's actually really funny, imagining Kiku trying to understand around James' accent.

We go in the 3rd year of my course! We're allocated a university in Japan and we go and live and study there for a year, paid for by the uni! We get an allowance and everything!

It sounds much more impressive. "I'm studying language decline and subsequent revival efforts in Wales." "Ooooh!"

Ours grew out of the Games Society about 2 years ago, still going strong what, no cookies?:P

Oh God I can see his confused face XD. He'd totally pretend he could understand while avoiding actually giving James an answer. Meanwhile Scotland's trying to get a straight answer out of him and England's in the corner snickering because he knows exactly what the problem is but watching James suffer is too funny.XD I think Áine lucked out, apparently the (standard) Irish accent is really easy for Japanese people to understand...as long as we speak slowly. Which we're not very good at. So she'd be chatting away and Kiku would be trying frantically to keep up with her XD. Wonder what Wales would do?O.o

I AM SO JEALOUS OF YOU RIGHT NOW >.< In my uni we can't go study in Japan we can only go on work placement. We get to go on Erasmus in Europe for a semester though.:D

They will all be astounded by our Linguistic knowledge. /poses

Lol like the mutant geek baby it is... There are cookies. You eat them off the yaoi boys. >3

Aww poor Kiku, trying to understand all these accents. Wales might be harder than Aine's but easier than Scotty's, since Welsh accents puts all these stresses on syllables that Japan wouldn't be familiar with but it's still not as unintelligible as Scotty's. But one day, Kiku will come face to face with drunk!England's Geordie accent. And lulz will be had.

Ooooo~ We'll all be jetsetting all over the place. /googles Erasmus

Indeed they will.XD *takes out camera*

It's like a conjoined twin. Most of the members of the Anime and Manga Society are also members of the Games Society. And a lot of them are also in the Chess Club. It's like the Holy Trinity of Nerddom :P of course! But won't they mind us interrupting?

English must be like one of the hardest languages ever, there's like six or seven "Standard" versions. Haha, or his Cockney accent.:P Poor North's shit outta luck, his accent's almost harder to understand than Scotty's.:(

Yep! Good times will be had by all!XD Er, Erasmus is an EU programme that gives you a grant if you go and study in an EU country. European Mobility I think it's called. From what I've heard it's not that big in the UK damn Euroskeptics...:P
