Title: Family Ties

Characters (in this chapter): Germany, N.Italy, Lithuania, England, Wales, New Zealand and Australia.

Rating: 15?

Warnings: Knowledge of the Navy that I obtained from my half-senile grandpa, Italy having a smart moment.

Summary: Uh, I need to be banned from the kink meme or monsters like this happen? Essentially, Scotland leaves the UK, which gives Northern Ireland an excuse to up and out as well, which leaves England and Wales all alone. Oh yeah, and this somehow leads to World War Three.

Germany tried knocking on the door for the third time. The winter wind blew snow in sideways, and he'd had to kick a snow drift out of the way just to get to the door. This, and the fact it was taking much too long to open the door, was what had him worried. "Lithuania!" He finally resorted to calling. "You called me over here, now open up!"

Something in the door clicked, and finally it opened a fraction. Lithuania peered out uncertainly, then opened the door once he saw who it was.

"Oh, it's just you, Germany." he sighed. Large bags under his eyes detailed how he hadn't been sleeping properly. "I thought you might have been..."

"Russia?" Germany finished the trailed off sentence, nodding gravely. "My brother told me you were worried."

"Germany~! I brought the pizza!" Feliciano popped up out of nowhere, brandishing pizza boxes emblazoned with the Pizza Hut label. "Ve, don't be fooled by the boxes, I made them myself!"

Toris gave a short, half-surprised laugh, stepping aside to let them in the hallway. "Come in, it's cold outside."

It was quite cold inside too; though there was an electric heater in the living room where Lithuania lead them to. He sat both his guests on the sofa, where Veneciano curled up next to Germany for warmth, making the blonde blush heavily and clear his throat. Lithuania wondered out to the kitchen to make some coffee.

"Milk, sugar?"

"Ah, just milk please."

"Milk and two sugars, per favore!"

It ended up that Feliciano didn't even drink his coffee because it was instant ("Maybe he's still used to making it for America?"), but the mugs made good hand warmers. Despite this and the proximity of Lithuania's seat to the radiator, the Baltic Nation didn't seem to be warming up.

"You asked us over because you were worried about security, correct?" Germany began.

"Mm." Lithuania tried to shuffle even closer to the heat source. "He's not being very subtle about how close he's patrolling his soldiers near my borders." He shivered slightly. "It's like having a constant draft. He's letting me know that at any time-" a shake of the head. "I've upped the security, but it's still not quite enough."

"Ve, I don't like strip searches." Italy pouted. "It took aaaaages to get through border control." Lithuania looked sheepish.

"I'm sorry about that." Toris was the kind of person it was hard to be angry with, even if Feliciano had been that way inclined. "But I think my paranoia is somewhat... justifiable." His eyes darted briefly to the windows, the doors and any dark corners. It was like he expected Russia himself just to pop out of nowhere. "I don't think I've seen my brothers in months; they're avoiding me."

Germany remained silently thoughtful for a moment as Italy abandoned his coffee in favour of the pizza. "Well, I can certainly convince the others to send in the peacekeeping army, if only to bolster your own defenses." he said, declining with his hand when Feliciano offered him a slice of pizza. "Though, thinking about what's happened to Finland, Russia's just looking to start fights at this point."

"He wants to use the winter." Lithuania's shaking was just shy of Latvia's levels on a good day. "But the Nord5 aren't afraid of using it to their own advantage either." He rubbed his cold-reddened fingers together in a vain attempt to warm them. "I don't see why they don't just join with the WDF full stop and create a supergroup."

"Ve, isn't it because they just want Russia to stop being scary to Finland and leave them alone so they can go back to being neutral?" Italy chirped around a mouthful of food.

The other two stared in silence.

'When did he get smart?!' was the simultaneous thought that flashed through both Nation's brains.

"Ve?"

Germany cleared his throat. "Nevermind. Anyway, the WDF have sent forces to help regardless, and England is at least having fun with naval battles, last I heard."

---

"Starboard!"

"All hands steady!"

The explosion rocked the deck sideways, tossing those who were stupid enough not to grab hold of something to the ground. England stood braced against the base of a gun turret that rapidly returned fire from the torpedo strike. "Report!" he yelled over the noise. A deckhand slid to attention.

"Only minor damage to the paintwork, sir!" he saluted, one hand still on some rigging. "They missed!"

"Couldn't aim for toffee!" Captain Kirkland laughed. "Keep her moving lads, they won't stop our advance to Helsinki!" The sailors cheered and went back to their jobs. Wales shook his head at his younger brother's antics.

"I'm pretty sure it's just the dazzle paint working, Art." he commented over the roar of gunfire and ocean waves. "That, and our signal scramblers have their radar going doolally."

"Ah, don't be a spoilsport, Darren!" England laughed, clapping him on the back jovially. The Nation always looked happier when at sea, the ice-cold ocean air whipping his hair back and crusting salt on his skin. Regardless, Wales couldn't help feeling a little miffed that he was the one being called the spoil sport.

"Just because this is the first time in twenty years you've captained a ship with real people on it-"

"Captain!" called a deck hand, rushing over to hand England a piece of paper. "We've received intelligence from Ireland's fly-over forces." England scanned the document. "They've engaged in combat, sir."

"Dismissed." England said absently, going back to read in more detail as the sailor left. "Trust Aine to go dog-fighting within the first few days." he murmured with a strange sort of half affection, half exasperation.

Wales read over his shoulder, whistling low at the specs on the planes that they'd gathered. "She was right to be excited over her competition though."

"I'll trust her to handle it." England was frowning. He read faster than Wales and had gotten to the less hopeful news nearer the bottom. "The front lines have been pushed back much further than we thought. They have the capital, and God only knows what that's done to Tino."

"But Tino's civilians had time to arm themselves, unlike North." Wales tapped the bottom of the sheet. "So he's not lost yet."

England folded the paper and put it in his pocket. "The rest of the Nord5 will have their backup forces armed and moving out as soon as Switzerland ships their supplies. The man's making a mint on this." He turned on his heel and ducked inside the ship, the sound of the wind replaced by the grind of machinery. "And then we won't be needed here so much. Spreading our forces too far would be foolish, especially with the borders on home turf to protect as well, but..." he paused. "I worry for Kiku. The last message we got from Brooke was a few days ago and since then someone's been scrambling them as they cross the Pacific."

Wales smiled. "Ah, don't worry about that." He kept in step with his brother. "I'm sure some certain people are working on fixing those problems as we speak."

---

"A-achoo!" sneezed New Zealand. Australia paused halfway in to the cockpit.

"Dust in your helmet, sis?" he chuckled. Katherine sniffed.

"Mexico's meeting us half way and I'm not being late. Now shut up and get in the plane." she grinned. It was eerily similar to Scotland's. "We have a Communist Ocean Blockade to clear."

Notes"
- GUH LONG CHAPTER.
- I figure Russia's forces lurking near the borders would be akin to having someone hold a fan blowing cold air next to your neck for ever. I think too hard about these things.
- Dazzle Paint - a precaution developed in the First World War to avoid being hit by manually targeted torpedos. The paint is designed to throw off where a person thinks the front, back, or wherever they want to hit on the ship is. This is in addition to radar scramblers, which work by creating an area of warmth that messes with radar around the ship/submarine/wtfever.
- Switzerland, holding the time honoured tradition of staying as firmly neutral as possible, is following his second most time honoured tradition of selling weapons and soldiers to absolutely everyone. This is why the Swiss are extremely rich and have a very stable economy; no matter who is fighting, they win.

Part 28

... but then again, was anyone surprised?

Ch27: Your grandpa sounds cool. Ooh, Italy got a smart moment. \o/ Well he isn't stupid, he's just... uhm... airheaded?

Yay for England on the sea. \o/ All of this kinda reminds me of the Crimean War and what we up here call the Åland's War. We even have an old military song that has a part that goes "when with three hundred ships / sailed the Englishmen on our Finland's coasts" and "it was so splendid to watch / hurray, hurray, hurray / as the Englishmen sailed on the Gulf / right beside the fästning of Åland". [/nobody cares] Well, actually it was an Anglo-French fleet but everybody seems to forget the French part (though fairly enough, it was probably a lot smaller.) *shuts up for real this time*

Btw, you keep writing "boarder" in this chapter and I think you mean "border"....

Switzerland is always Switzerland of course... :p And lol, the good old sneezing joke.

Ooooh, that Dazzle Paint thing is so cool! *O*

Phew. Done. Then the map. \o\

I think I got it all, I hope so anyway. Dunno if I exaggerated China's fleet in the Pacific, though... but I just thought it should be pretty impressive.

How's South-Korea doing btw? And hey, what about Taiwan? We haven't heard of her at all, have we?

Oh and have the WDF managed to invade anything anywhere yet?

I think I'm done now. *goes have a sandwich*

Not particularly bb <3 Watch as I do the same.

Thanks for pointing out all the typos! *goes back to edit*

And omigod those rugby players. Is that awesome or what. O.O

They are both awe inspiring and terrifying at the same time. Oh god, I can understand why we keep losing to them.

You have a thing about waking charas up in the middle of the night, don't you?

Ahahaha you caught me. Mostly I have people waking up in the middle of the night because of phonecalls (poor Wales) and time zones (where they are it's day, and most stuff happens during the day EG: Israel), but this time it was a different reason.... still, I have been caught. *needs to stop being predictable*

ouch, Tajikistan. o__o Holy fuck, Middle-East, you're getting way too creepy.

Yeah, they're pretty severe when it comes to punishments over yonder. All that stuff about chopping off your left hand for stealing etc. Well, how about cutting a traitor's tongue out for talking and blinding their eyes?

Your grandpa sounds cool.

Yes. Yes he is.

Ooh, Italy got a smart moment. \o/ Well he isn't stupid, he's just... uhm... airheaded?

I am of the personal opinion that Italy is a lot smarter than he appears. For god's sake, the Renaissance originated in Italy; he woke everyone up from the Dark Ages! He's just a laid back, friendly, happy sort of guy.

And lol, the good old sneezing joke.

I love this joke. To bits and pieces. I had to use it.

Then the map. \o\

OMG MAP I MISSED YOU MAAAAAAAP! Did you even manage to get all the little countries in there? Epic awesome. The Communist Ocean Blockade is pretty accurate. They're surrounding Japan and spotted across the ocean so as to disrupt signals, trade etc. Oh god the manga trade must be suffering so.

How's South-Korea doing btw? And hey, what about Taiwan? We haven't heard of her at all, have we?

South Korea's only been funding the WDF, which is dangerous since he's surrounded by NWO. His situation is going to change pretty soon.

Taiwan, urk. Goddamn it I forgot about her. *goes to research her political ties ATM*

....

[One visit to Wikipedia later.]

Holy shit that stuff is complicated. The Hong Kong page never elaborated on how fegging confusing this One Country Two Systems thing could be. For argument's sake, she's following China's lead, since she effectively shares his government.

THAT'S IT THAT'S ENOUGH THINKING FOR NOW IMMA GO GET A CUPPA GAAAAAAH
