What's sad is that if an organization popped up saying, "Hey! Donate to help the United States of America get out of debt!" most people wouldn't look at it twice :^ I'd be gung-ho for it, but the general American population...eh, not so much. Friggin' Reagan...

BUT IF IT'S A TINY ISLAND RANSACKED BY MAMA NATURE. Then yes, we will pour our all into funding hero-times for a place most Americans have never even heard of. Or if it's New Orleans, and even then not everything's back to normal.

It's because the asshats in Washington don't want to cut spending. Even those who claim they do just block attempts to do so and spout that crap to make people vote for them.
