Wiki-walking.

Gotta stop reading Wikipedia.

Firstly because my wiki-walking takes up hours that I could be using to learn things that are not random shit about Queen or bee farming.

Secondly because Wikipedia is a veritable black hole and I will never. Stop. Browsing.

Thirdly because I am in class so I should be listening to Jenny when she talks.

Finally, because inevitably I will end up on the Psychology pages and start diagnosing everyone I know as well as myself. Everyone's a little bit messed up, it's not a crime, and not everyone cares for a diagnosis for their nictophobia or CES or OCD.

I'm so Neurotic Obsessive Compulsive it's painful.

No.

Bad Pidge, stop.

orz

Do you guys ever get carried away with diagnosing yourself? Or even wiki-walking until your cyber-shoes are worn to nothing?

*holds up hand* I have never wiki-walked.

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Count yourself lucky my friend; that means you haven't wasted hour upon hour of your life doing useless shit.
starrose: varric (Hetalia - Russia/Latvia *poke*)

[personal profile] starrose 2010-05-18 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah but i waste hour upon hour of doing other useless shit, so that makes up for it lol

[identity profile] nenamoo.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
...you know diagnosing yourself isn't healthy right? It's like looking up your own terminal disease.

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's also not healthy to feel a compulsion to throw whatever is in your hands into a river when you go near one.

But yeah. You're right. Should not do that.

[identity profile] nenamoo.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
...you do?

Of course I'm right XP

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
And if I have a sharp object I want to stab something soft with it even if it's stupid, and all my drawings must be in the order in which I drew them in my drawer, and I can't have two different socks, and if my hair tie doesn't match with my top I worry about it all day even if you can't see it because my hair eats it, and all my clothes/hair/etc must be symmetrical. I hate side partings because of this.

*sigh*

[identity profile] nenamoo.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch man... you must have a nervous breakdown when standing next to me or being in my room. But the sharp objects thing, with you. At least you don't feel the urge to jump whenever you're walking along something that's a long way up.

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
You're actually fairly symmetrical most of the time, though sometimes I want to take a comb to your hair. Notice how I tidy your room whenever I'm there? XD Actually, that too, which is why I avoid heights. See what I mean about everyone being a little neurotic? XD

[identity profile] nenamoo.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
My hair is fine! How about the odd earrings and socks? And now you mention it, yes you do tidy XD

I like heights, cause I know I'm not crazy enough to jump yet, it's a nice feeling to be able to see everything.

Hey, please come walk the dog with me? I'll show you something amazing.

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I generally don't notice your earrings but now you've said that I probably will damnit. Your socks only annoy me when I can see them; you wear shoes most of the time. I'm not about to rip them off your feet though. Unless one was falling off. Now THAT gets to me.

I get up there and the urge gets bigger and bigger and bigger. Not for any particular desire to die, or anything like that. It's an irrational compulsion.

Nena darling, I'm in Costa in Alton.

[identity profile] oozaru-angel.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Not so much diagnosing myself, but I spend way too much time looking up random trade treaties and battles and stuff from history. My favourite so far is the Gift of Wool, where Australia gave Austria a load of wool as a gift and it is the dorkiest thing ever, I read the letters they sent back and forth sorting it out. I also really like this one tariff rule Australia tried to set up to stop America selling goods in him, where he randomly included Canada in the ban because he was pissed off at him for defending America at the Commonwealth meeting things.

... This is my life now.

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha I think I've wikiwalked through half of British history now. I never knew about the War of the Roses in so much detail oh god. I may need to fic it. It's, to put it as Nena described it, exactly like Fight Club.

I feel your pain.

[identity profile] oozaru-angel.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't rely only on Wikipedia, because I buy too many history books not to use them. But I've been reading this book about the first fleet to Australia and I want to do a fic outlining England's whole journey there- which is actually really exciting and would feature cameos from the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and France- and then beginnings of the first settlement and so on. I know so many tiny details now I did not need to know which type of fruits the sailors had thrown at them by locals when they came to port (oranges, off the top of my head, I think).

It's like, "Oh, I have a free half hour now I'm done with my homework, I think I'll read about early 20th Century trade negotiations~". At least other history dorks are in it for the cool things like wars.

[identity profile] candesceres.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
......I am wiki-walking as we speak.

But in my defence it started out as research for a chapter of a fic on Scotland and his kids. Which turned into browsing on the Kalmar Union, and Danish kings, ladies-in-waiting... religion in Europe... the Age of Enlightenment... existentialism and humanism...

...and now I just realize half an hour has gone by and I want to get this fic up by tonight asap. Oops. XDDD;

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like a disorder in and of itself. orz

Omg Scotty's kids I'm suddenly intrigued. He needs more love and kiddies; England's got a million, Wales has the Sheep Appreciation Club, even Ireland has Montserrat. /waits for this fic 8D

[identity profile] candesceres.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Scotland's kids are just precious, no lie. And they're actually HIS and not adopted like so many of England's are hahaha. THE DRAMA. :|a

THERE YOU GO. :DDD

[identity profile] tuulensisko.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes and yes.

Especially the wiki-walking part: Every. Freaking. Day.

Brb, back to reading about former Soviet leaders. You know, Stalin was scarily like Hitler. And I don't mean like "well both were murderous, paranoid fuckheads" although that's also true, I mean like they have the same damn life story (only with different locations) up to the part where Hitler lost and Stalin won in WW2.

And btw I already hated Stalin, now I hate him even more. Whereas my cautious respect for Lenin grows.

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There is no escape. orz

Stalin was a massive dick in general. Lenin was kind of cool in his own way. Trotsky was the real badass though. Sent to Mexico, assassinated with a pick axe, only he stood up with the pick axe still in his head and punched his assassin out and then told the guards (who were obviously fail guards) to arrest the bloke who killed him, THEN dropped dead.

Stalin has a higher death count than Hitler. :| That just spells it out.

[identity profile] tuulensisko.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Omg. xD That IS badass. Wtf Russia, you had Rasputin too, who got stabbed, poisoned and shot several times before he finally died... of drowning, later in an icy river. Fair enough though, it's not exactly sure if all that happened as all we have is his killers' testimonials of that...

Yeah... though he did have more time to do it, of course. But he did just get away with it and is STILL considered a national hero in Russia by many... which just scares me to death because it just proves how possible it is that it could all happen again. The whole cult of personality thing did happen again with Putin too... Look at these guys for example, and their successor, who btw were the ones responsible for the cyber-attacks against Estonia... (It bugs me so much how in Hetalia it's claimed that the attacks were done by an Estonian. I have NO idea where Himaruya got that info. But it bugs me. So much. Okay, not many Estonians read Hetalia but it's still offensive, I think, after everything Russia has done to them and then some Japanese guy gets an idea to blame an Estonian for an attack that's obviously petty harrassment by Russia.)

Anyway, it's just. Scary. *shudders and thinks about Family Ties which is not a good thing to come to mind from reality djkghkjghljdkhg*

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Rasputin was amazing. And kind of creepy, but also amazing. You missed out "beaten with an iron flail and then shot some more". XD Idk why would they try to make the guy they hated sound even cooler?

But- Stalin- he- he's still a national hero? Okay, sure, he dragged Russia from the dark ages kicking and screaming, but mostly screaming because of all the poverty and people dying. Putin has got a pretty big thing going on with the youth. Personal headcanon says that Russia has a little man-crush on him. Haha. (Japanese wikipedia? I dunno either, but it doesn't take much for information to be distorted like that.)

Dude are you kidding? The more votes the Scottish separationist parties get the more paranoid I become.

[identity profile] tuulensisko.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh damn, I had the feeling I forgot something but I didn't want to push it. x);; Well yeah... Unless they wanted to make him seem inhuman or something? Or if it's just a case of distorted memory.

Yes... =__=;; As a friend of mine commented, Russians like strong leaders. Even if the leader is totally nuts, makes horrible decisions and generally just causes misery and death. That and apparently history still isn't taught very accurately in Russia. And people just like to keep Stalin's good name alive. True enough he did drag Russia from the dark ages... but then again that wasn't all his doing and I'm guessing the other heads of the country had a lot to do with it, it was the plan all along after all.

He totally does.

*pat pat* At least Scotland becoming independent wouldn't necessarily mean anything that big. The possible conflict would probably stay in Britain, I think? Though I'm not sure if that comforts you. xD;; B-but Russia then again.... *shudders* Although I'm biased, living next to it and all. :| Just waiting for Ivan to start picking up his old "friends" again...

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess so. The only impression my history class got of him though was "woah, badass." XD

Well, history is what you make of it. It's not taught all that accurately in England either. Other countries, sure, but not our own. Our empire was all sunshine and roses, oh yes. Such a shame it vanished for absolutely no reason some time after WW2, huh? Also Henry VIII was a saint and Victoria was awesome if slightly neurotic.

Hahaha orz I'm just being paranoid. If Scotland did separate it probably wouldn't start a war or anything. France is too busy with the EU to re-form the Auld Alliance properly. But as you said, Russia... D8 Russia in general was a huge land mass I knew nothing about until my history GCSE, and even then that was just Communist Russia. Hetalia's the one that's shown me the glory of mother Russia. XD

[identity profile] tuulensisko.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Pffft. Yeah... you have a point there. We're not exactly innocent in that area over here either. (Also we like to pretend that we have had actual impact in the world history. xD;)

Yuuup. No need to worry about that. :''D I do wonder how they would do as an independent country. Not that I know much about Scotland's resources... But yeah, Russia... Though I'm not that worried, not for us EU countries at least. It'll take a fair while before Russia would have the guts to start pissing EU off. But still, it's not a nice thought that a modern superpower with the second strongest military force in the world, is populated by people who are totally willing to give their country into the hands of a sociopath.

We here obviously learn a lot more about Russia. xD; Can't help it really, it's been right there next to us ever since... well ever since it was created as a nation, really. and Novgorod before that, in the middle ages. Sweden and Russia have been fighting each other too, from since forever until the early 19th century (after which Sweden has just mostly been angsting over the loss of his empire). And try and have a guess where they fought those wars.

Scotland managed as an independent country for over 1600 years before we bound, gagged and dragged him kicking and screaming included him in the union. I reckon he'd do fine; he's got historical ties to a lot of his neighbouring countries and it's not like the rest of the UK would cease trade with him.

The EU is getting bigger all the time, so yeah, best not to fuck with them right now Russia. Wait until something breaks France and Germany up first mmkay? Like Scotland. Russia's so big you'd need someone charismatic and powerful to control it... I can see why they'd go for that, but I still think it's madness. Madness? THIS. IS. RUSSIA.

Bit of an awkward place to be there, Finland. Poor guy. England's got it simple; sea between him and everyone he hates. No countries in the way.

Re: /rp account

[identity profile] tuulensisko.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, well. xD; I do know that, just wondering if the modern Scotland could still do that, economically and whatnot. But I take your word for it.

Mm, true enough... Damn it, why do these countries need to be so damn big. I still think they should split the country into smaller pieces for goodness' sake. It's a humongous country and like third of the actually inhabited areas are already autonomous, some of them don't even have many Russians living there at all and have their own official languages along with Russian. plus I might have a bit of a biased opinion here but it'd be so cool to have more Finno-Ugric countries in the world.

Ahaha, except his family? Typical, you can escape everyone else but you can't escape your family.

[identity profile] coco-venus.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, is that why you keep fixing my hair because it is OMG SO MESSY!

I can't help it, anything that goes near my body automatically becomes messy (or covered in paint)

[identity profile] hellzabeth.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
orz I'm sorry but there's this one bit at the back that does not obey the rest of your hairstyle and it is irritating and makes me twitch.

I noticed ahaha why are you allowed in the Art Dept. again?

[identity profile] coco-venus.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It hates me. But its being cut and hopefully tamed tomorrow. And it was all lying flat today, even the back.

...Because they love me?

[identity profile] alianorethecat.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't wiki-walk...much. Only when I'm looking up histories and stuff on countries for hetalia related purposes. but I did spent 10 straight hours on tvtropes. That website is incredibly addicting.

[identity profile] hirra-chan.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
One Friday I wiki-walked for SIX HOURS. I'm a lost cause. Wikipedia and TV Tropes are my drugs (maybe this is why I don't care about places like MySpace or Twitter).

About self-diagnosis, not really. I actually have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. It's not pretty.
