Title: Family Ties

Characters (in this chapter): North and South Korea, Austria, Hungary, India, Afghanistan, Russia, China, Turkey.

Rating: 15

Warnings: Some graphic imagery.

Summary: Uh, I need to be banned from the kink meme or monsters like this happen? Essentially, Scotland leaves the UK, which gives Northern Ireland an excuse to up and out as well, which leaves England and Wales all alone. Oh yeah, and this somehow leads to World War Three.

South Korea woke up to an extremely odd sound coming from the next room over. Lifting his head off the desk he'd fallen asleep on, he shuffled quietly to the bedroom, remembering belatedly that he'd left his sister in there. He pushed open the door without it making too much of a sound, to find North Korea curled up in her bed arms wrapped around herself.

"Chun Hei-nunim?"

She made another sound, oddly between a grunt and a squeak. Shuddering, she peaked out from between her locks of hair. "He's taking them away!" she breathed heavily.

Perplexed, South Korea leaned closer to try and hear his northern sister better. "Taking what away?"

Dark eyes fixed him with an accusing look. "My missiles, idiot. Your Australian friend is taking my missiles." Her voice grew even quieter as she curled in on herself even more. "I'm getting weaker and it feels..."

"... scary?" he finished, but he got a dirty glare for it. "Alright, not scary, but weird, right? Uncomfortable."

Chun Hei's pout wasn't quite hidden by the hunch of her shoulders. "Yeah."

They didn't touch, but stayed in each others company until the shudders and shaking stopped, and North Korea finally fell asleep, much weaker than she had been before, but maybe a little less alone.

-----

"Roderich?" Hungary called sweetly while beating the head of some poor hapless Ukrainian soldier, who had stormed the restaurant they had been eating in right in with the rest of his men. The handle of her frying pan was getting a little more than slick with blood.

"Yes?" Austria replied, hiding behind an overturned table which had several bullet holes in it. He'd been shooting periodically over the top, but had only managed to down three men with his old pistol, and was now out of ammunition.

A clanging sound followed the next NWO soldier's face becoming permanently imprinted on the pan of Hungary's weapon. "Do you think that the chef finished making our desert or did he run before?"

Austria peered into the kitchen from where he was sitting. "I think he was half done."

"Is it salvageable?" Glass crunched underfoot. Outside, similar battles raged all over the streets, civilians having armed themselves ahead of time and ambushing soldiers on their own.

"Probably not, but I could make something, if these brutes haven't ruined all the food." the aristocratic Nation swiped the legs out from a passing soldier using a table leg, and Hungary drove the heel of her stilettos into his eye for a swift and effective kill.

She helped her former husband to his feet, giggling. "I would love that."

Behind her, a dark shape loomed. "Duck!" yelled Roderich suddenly, which Elizaveta instinctively obeyed. Tossing the table leg he still had clenched in his hand, Roderich hit the last, very bulky enemy soldier square in the face with it. Oddly, the table leg stuck on the man's face at an odd angle, and he fell backwards, hitting the glass-covered floor with a loud crash. Creeping over to him, Hungary pulled out the table leg, which had apparently still contained the nailed used to attach it to the tabletop. They were easily three inches long, and dripped blood.

Austria stared at his hands, before clearing his throat. "I meant to do that."

Hungary smiled. "Of course you did, dear."

-----

India stood in the nuclear control centre, watching the flight path of her freshly launched missile head straight for Saudi Arabia's farmlands. Conveniently, this was also where the NWO were building their own missile bases, according to leaked intelligence.

"Khakhar, I'm not comfortable with this." Afghanistan shrunk back into her hijab, holding her old AK-47 like the safety blanket it had oddly become over the years.

India pursed her lips. "Nobody is."

-----

It was hard to tell with Russia, sometimes, whether he was plotting someone's violent and painful murder, pondering a situation thoughtfully and calmly, or just smiling vacantly like that to psych you out. Either way, the smile was an impenetrable wall of ice, and it took someone very skilled to break through it. Someone who had many years of practice and reading through stony facades.

Someone like, say, China.

"You are not angry about Latvia, aru?" he asked, scanning over the bookshelf Russia kept in his office. Awful lot of Tolstoy, surprisingly little Marx. Yao liked Marx.

"Nyet, not really." Ivan hummed, writing something on a sheet of paper in the same way a child would use a crayon to draw a delightful picture. "If they have the technology, there is still no way for them to stop me. The only way for them to gain an advantage..."

"... Is if they use it themselves, aru." Reaching for War and Peace, he opened it, only to find it concealed a hip flask. Shooting a raised eyebrow at his ally, China eventually rolled his eyes, sighing. Why had he expected any different.

"I do have a real copy, you know." Russia defended against the unsaid accusation. He patted a worn, beaten and very much loved leather bound book that sat on his desk. "But that one is useful for bringing to conferences, da?"

The Asian put it back. "It must not get much use now, aru."

"No, not really. We haven't had a conference since war was declared." Ivan just kept smiling that brittle, unreal smile, like the lingering icicles after a snow storm. "Silly America, starting this war over something so small as a few bombs."

"It is not as though it hasn't happened before, aru." China replied dryly, facing Russia. "And don't pretend like you didn't want it to happen, aru. You may be a liar, but I'd hope you would at least try not to be so obvious."

A high, childish giggle. "I didn't need to do much. Just a little push, and the United Kingdom is not so united, da?" He wiggled his fingers, spreading them outwards. "They do not know the waves they create. Or maybe they do, which is why they cling so. Either way, a little push, and crack! They break! Is just like thin ice on lake; little crack gets bigger and bigger, until lake is split in half." The smile now showed teeth. "Just need to make sure that America and myself are on the opposite sides, and I get what I want, da?"

China was going to reply, but Russia's phone beeped insistently at them. The blonde pressed speaker phone and cheerfully answered. "Privyet, this is Russia."

The line crackled slightly before Turkey's voice broke through. "You son of a bitch, how the hell did your radar tech not pick up the Portuguese WDF ships coming straight for me across the Med?!"

Notes:
- I suppose, in terms of Nations, their strength would be equivalent to the strength of their army. With nukes, they are a lot stronger than the others. Like, win-in-an-arm-wrestle stronger. America, who has an obscenely powerful army, is obscenely strong, though he has been inherently strong since birth as well. The loss of military power would probably feel weird, or at least uncomfortable.
- I only wish I could write more Austria and Hungary.
