Title: Family Ties
Characters (in this chapter): Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Prussia
Rating: 12
Warnings: Nukes and self-destructiveness
Summary: Uh, I need to be banned from the kink meme or monsters like this happen? Essentially, Scotland leaves the UK, which gives Northern Ireland an excuse to up and out as well, which leaves England and Wales all alone. Oh yeah, and this somehow leads to World War Three.
Hong Kong had been only mildly surprised when China arched his back and fell off his chair, accidentally sending a few plates crashing with him. What surprised him was when the elder Nation gave a full body twitch and a choked-off scream a second time. Two? He hadn't meant for there to be two. But Australia couldn't possibly know everything he knew. There were some things that couldn't be explained in text format.
Like suspicions that your 4000 year old brother was effectively trying to kill himself.
Nobody else could see China's collapse from the outside; his PR was much too good for that, and besides which his government insisted he was fine as well. But the war was making it worse, making it faster. Hong Kong and Taiwan made dinner, and each day China ate a little bit less. It'd been nearly 5 years since it started, and by now he couldn't manage more than half a plain bowl of rice.
And then there were the days when he would eat everything on the table and subtly steal some of Taiwan's or Hong Kong's, only the throw it back up again within the hour. Taiwan would hold his hair and share a meaningful look with Hong Kong, and Hong Kong would try to start a conversation in which he hoped China would tell them what he was doing to himself, and China would change the subject to something like cats or someone else's trade agreements that were clashing with his own.
It was a cycle that the tiny island Nation had come to hate. Why did nobody ever tell him anything?
Did China have to be so stubborn?
He'd refused hospital, that was one thing. Taiwan sat by his bedside, changing his bandages and the cooling rag on his head which quickly turned hot.
"Yao-xiangsheng." Daniel sat on the other side of the bed. "I have a request."
"Mm?" the elder nation mumbled.
"I want you to move the prisoners of war from Taiwan's land."
Mei looked up at him sharply, surprised he'd be so quick with it. Yao opened his eyes and peered at him wearily.
"Why, aru?"
"The fallout from Fuzhou is threatening to fall on her. The less people on the island when it's hit hard the better." the younger Nation kept an eye on China's reaction. "If we take them to the complexes in Hainan and ask Macau to help regulate it, then it should work out."
A long, tense pause followed.
"Ah, I don't have the energy for this." China sighed.
"I'll organise the moving-"
"No, I mean I don't think I can care anymore, aru." Turning his face away, his unbound hair spread across the pillow. "Do as you wish, aru. Just don't get hurt."
Taiwan gave him a long, meaningful look. Hong Kong nodded. "If you say so... gege."
---
"For the peoples of Belarus!" cried the politician of the hour. Russia felt the edges of winter creep in once more, and polished his gun. Ukraine stood next to him, and hadn't cried once since their sister's death. Her tears had frozen in her heart.
"This attack took longer to mount than I had hoped." she said, watching the soldiers salute and march past Russia's boss, a fearsome and powerful man, though suspected to be a little too ruthless for anyone's good. But that was fine for them. Russia liked strong leaders, regardless of questionable sanity. They gave him someone in control.
"Patience syestra," A chill wind whipped at his coat and scarf. "It won't be long now. There is nothing stopping us from invading from the north."
Ukraine's lips thinned, her brow creased. "I know. I made sure of it."
---
Germany opened the door to his house and hung up his coat with a tired slump about him. The lapse in form was only because there wasn't anyone else meant to be in the house this evening. Maybe he could relax, just for one evening. He didn't even have any paperwork, which was a blessing in and of itself. If he could get his hands on some strudel he'd be happy, but that was a little too high end and complex when he was so exhausted.
Just as he was contemplating calling Italy up, he noticed the living room light on.
He felt for his gun in his belt, carefully creeping towards the door. Television blared some obscure music channel, and there was the smell of cooked meat. Jumping out, he pointed the gun at-
--Prussia.
The albino gave him a weird look. "Geez West, forget I live here or what?"
"You don't usually eat upstairs." the younger brother sat heavily on the sofa, leaning his head back. "Why are you here?"
"To keep a little more awesome in the world, duh." Prussia bit into one of the bratwurst sausages on the end of his fork, then offered one on another fork to his brother. Germany politely waved it off. "My room's too crowded."
"Your room's- what?" the blonde blinked at him, then groaned. "Bruder, I told you not to bring any more friends home."
"Hey, it's not like they have anywhere to go!" Prussia defended with a slight pout. "This is me being the awesome kindly soul I am. Found 'em wandering around and gave them a bed and a sofa at least." He caught Germany's look. "Oh come on West, they've had their houses destroyed. I'll even feed 'em.
Ludwig raised his hands in defeat. "Alright, but not for long. I'm going out to the front again in a week, and I want to relax."
Prussia grinned. "Awesome! Danke!" A finger pressed to smiling lips. "You won't even know we exist."

- Bridge chapter, blah blah, setting things up for awesome later.

Date: 2010-07-04 09:30 am (UTC)5 LONG YEARS OF SUFFERING. China's doing it in style. Hong Kong's a sneaky kid, gets what he wants in ways not necessarily legal, but he's a good kid at heart.
The price for getting Macau in on the operation was a high one XDIt's okay, I thought you'd just fallen asleep at the keyboard. It was late for you there. *pets*

Date: 2010-07-07 04:18 pm (UTC)I want in Hong Kong's pants. (Hot) Manipulative bastard. /shotRUSSIA, CHINA NEEDS A HUG! After 4000 years, China's finally gotten bored of it all... -bawls-
I think I'll count Canada and Belarus out of the two people Prussia's hiding, because y'know, can't revive people from the dead and all that... listen to Yuuko, kids, so I'm crossing my fingers for Portugal and Turkey or Scotland and France (latter is more likely, although I wouldn't complain if I see more TurkPort UST :B)
This makes me want to write a fic in which Prussia exists only because he wants to but really doesn't and is actually a delusion but then it's some freak crossover with TRC/Holic so Germany, Spain and France pay a price to Yuuko to keep him alive but barely so he's stuck with his internal clock stopped and all that shite, so in reality he's not a nation anymore but just some immortal-but-not and... damn TRC messes my head up.
